NOTE Open Nixie Project
Oven
Farny found some 50mm thick Promasil fire-resistant boards to use in the creation of an oven. He built a small enclosure with inner dimensions of 100x100x150mm.
He then mounted nichrome heating wire inside, with a total length of 140cm, and powered it with around 700W. To attach the heating wire he drilled 3mm holes through the wall, and made a loop from 0.7mm stainless steel wire and poked it from the inner side catching the heating wire. On the outer side of the wall, he made a 10mm hole 10mm deep and bent the ends of the loop of stainless steel wire through the hole. The hole prevents the loop from touching the metal enclosure that will be used for the oven frame.
The stainless steel wire is used because iron wire would rust quickly due to the reaction of hot iron and oxygen in the air.
