Farny found 1.3m³ of 99.996% pure argon in an 8L bottle. Argon was chosen because it has similar properties to neon but is much cheaper and more available.

In fact, argon actually requires lower voltage than neon.

Farny found this bottle + argon for $100 and a refill costs $20, however he found that the pink-blue discharge of argon is dimmer than neon.
