ABOUT

Wright Industries

A working notebook on nixie tubes, clocks, and the electronics around them.

This site is a working notebook. It documents the design, manufacture, and refurbishment of nixie tubes and the clocks and electronics built around them — published in public as the work happens rather than waiting for finished results.

Who

Wright Industries is the working name for the workshop of Joel Wright in Brisbane, Australia. The sole-trader business J WRIGHT INDUSTRIES (ABN 15 724 733 509) is registered to ship small runs of custom-built nixie clocks, tube refurbishments, and related electronics. Phase one is the documentation site you're reading.

What

Each project documents one body of work — a clock, a driver board, a piece of workshop tooling — and contains two kinds of content:

  • Notes are rough, dated build-log entries. Questions asked of myself, experiments tried, dead ends hit, decisions recorded with their reasoning. Most of the volume here is notes.
  • Releases are longer, more refined milestone write-ups intended to stand on their own. Schematic releases, procedure documents, retrospectives, the occasional manifesto.

Why

Most of the nixie literature lives in scattered forum threads and out-of-print Soviet manuals. The intent here is to add to the public record in a way that is durable, searchable, and honest about the messy in-between work — not just polished outcomes.
